Rhona Regatta History

Surprised that the ship was in the water, we waited for the seller on the opposite pier.
A warm welcome and we were on Rhona, rightly named after Golum at this time, the 1970s of disfigurement and the last 10 years without any care turned a design masterpice into a Golum like we know him from lord of the rings.

Some Facts after 5 Years of restoration:

Rhona was built in 1927 by the famous shipbuilder William Fife at Fairlie shipyard in Scotland.

Rhona is the last William Fife 12 in the world that is still in restoration.

Rhona was considered lost for a long time and the last owner knew nothing of her origin.

Rhona changed hands more then 10 times and also belonged to the Earl of Essex. In the meantime it was even used as an artist's studio in Norway.

Rhona has been restored for 5 years (apart from a few weeks help from friends) by Jordi (craftsman/houseman) and Dan (boat builder and architect).

Rhona is restored on average in one week per month financed by the rest 3 weeks of work.

Rhona has received around 3000 hours of work (including weekends and free time), plus around 1000 hours for planning, procurement of materials and marketing.

Rhona still consists mostly of original parts including mast and main boom.

Rhona is available for charter from April 2024 and will be in port of Barcelona for the hole America's cup.
